Ton’s photographic work stems from his sensitivities as a graphic designer and the need to resolve, organise and simplify things in a way that make visual navigation easy, pleasant and soothing. In some of the works featured in this exhibition, he has successfully compressed a three-dimensional scene into two dimensions, leaving the viewer with a sense of wonder. A very refreshing approach when today most media are flooded with 3D gimmicks, obscuring the real stories of craftsmen and artists.

“Taking pride in everything they do, the Japanese always strive for perfection. A commitment towards hidden beauty and a sense of tranquility that can be found within the smallest detail. I have attempted to capture some of it during my travels through Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara and Osaka.” Ton
